About A Band
Post 44:
You’ve heard me throw out some acid about pop music, but today I’m going positive. Bastille is currently my favorite contemporary act. Great vocals, and hey, the words mean something. If you haven’t heard of them, they had a hit about a volcano. Pompeii is a wonderful song—in fact, all of their songs are wonderful. They don’t take a lot of chances—it’s pretty much about staying in their wheelhouse. But so what? It’s a good wheelhouse.
They have a song called Poet. Here’s a lyric: “I have written you down now, you will live forever.”
He talks about how now she’s alive on the page and the world will know her in perpetuity. The act of writing shifts the helplessness from him and onto her. Kind of sick, but hey, true is true.
So give them a listen. And try not to piss off a writer. “You will live forever…”
