Tyler Has Words is the blog of Tyler Patrick Wood, a writer/musician from Texas. You'll get free book excerpts twice a week. On the other days, you'll get words. If you would like an original take on everything by an expert on nothing, this might be a cool place to hang out.

About Deciding

About Deciding

Post 47:

Deciding what matters is pretty much the whole task before us. It’s the whole frigging deal. Prioritization, time-management, call it what you will. I’m one of those unfortunates that has a changeable mind on what matters most.

Not sure if that’s a good or a bad thing. We’re always changing, but it’s good to have an anchor or two to stay you through the patchy seas. Of course there’s the go-to answers: family, friends, career, faith or lack thereof, etc. What else is there?

A lot, actually. There’s tons of stuff that can occupy your brain, infinite, if you want to get technical. Of course there isn’t infinite time, so what to do?

Oh, this is where I provide some solution—sorry. Just don’t be a jerk and things will probably work themselves out. I almost went into a diatribe against materialism. You know, the old, “You can’t take it with you,” line. That line doesn’t make sense. You can’t take anything with you, so that statement literally has no meaning whatsoever.

I’ve found my purpose. My calling. My priority. Rooting out hundred-year-old phrases and debunking them for the vapid nonsensical trifles that they are.

Pretty noble, I know. See you after.
