About All the Days
Post 722:
There’s not a ton about ceremony that floats my boat. Occasions and festivities aren’t really my jam, but I do see the merit of leaning into them with a whole heart.
If there’s time between conversations with distant relatives and shopping for presents, it’s good to try looking around and marking the time.
I like to do something specific and unique, something that I’ve never done. This doesn’t mean it has to be grand or whatever, just different enough to remember. And then you simply note who you are and how things are going at that time.
Easy enough. Some people take tons of pictures, and yeah, that’ll do. But I’m talking more about actions. I still remember the family football game when I was seven. I don’t need a picture. That day lives in me. And it was just football. One cousin got hurt. I think I bragged too much and spiked the ball like a jerk. Our little yard was huge back then and I was so small.
Kids have it right, obviously. They love the holidays, and it comes so natural. They’re also (hopefully) having too much fun to mark the time. But that’s why there’s old people like me to observe and record. When all the days and holidays are added up, hopefully the trail you’ve marked is a good one. Me? I’m working on it.
Merry Almost Christmas. Cheers and see you after.
