Tyler Has Words is the blog of Tyler Patrick Wood, a writer/musician from Texas. You'll get free book excerpts twice a week. On the other days, you'll get words. If you would like an original take on everything by an expert on nothing, this might be a cool place to hang out.

About Your Masterpiece

Post 537:

Are you feeling the flow? Are you in touch with that dimension that we wonder about but can’t see? Is the creativity pulsating your insides, forcing its way through the pores of your earthly vessel?

            Me neither.

Don’t get me wrong. I’m doing just fine. I’ve got three novels in the works. There’s some good stuff in there. Hopefully I don’t screw it up.

I wonder what the masters were thinking while they were making their masterpieces. Was it all that stuff I said in the first paragraph? Maybe once every couple weeks, but I imagine they were working too hard to really get into all that nonsense.

            Just speculating.

It’s an interesting question. How do you know when you’re really on the trail of something special?

            Tough one.

Tough, because even if you think you’re creating the greatest thing that’s ever existed, and maybe you are, some schmuck that sees it or reads it might think that it’s crap. You ever hear about some book that “wasn’t well received” in its time? Sure you have. It’s the one where the author dies, and then a few decades later he gets famous.

            Bully for the dead guy.

In closing, be proud. But not too proud. Who knows if you know or they know or anyone knows. I hate to wade through the waters of subjectivity, but sometimes it’s the nature of the beast.

Do your thing. This one ain’t gonna get solved.

            Cheers. See you after.
