About A Pig

About A Pig

Post 1049:

It’s been a bit since I’ve watched anything new that felt original, something made with heart and earned ability. Then I saw a movie about a pig. Yes, I’m talking about the Nicolas Cage movie Pig. It’s a very interesting and beautiful piece of work. The most exciting thing I’ve ever seen—no—but it’s worth it for many reasons, mostly because it’s not what you’d expect. Whoever made it forgot about the moratorium on creative license and give-a-shits.

As a word guy, this doesn’t offer a whole lot. The dialogue is sparse and subtle and most of the storytelling is visual. I’d recommend it based on the visuals alone, actually. The lighting is wonderfully soft and the cinematography is thoughtful and beautifully framed. The story opens itself up to you slowly and methodically.

If your brain is turned off, this is a movie about a guy looking for a pig.

If your brain is turned on, this is a movie about a guy looking for a pig… but it’s about a lot more than that. There is a deep well of emotional emotion-type things going on here. Check it out if you want to see good performances, a movie that seems to just want to exist as it is for what it is. I wish I was that self-confident. Cheers and see you after.
