About The Outfit

About The Outfit

Post 1240:

The Outfit is a movie that came out this year about a suit maker, or cutter, in post WW2 Chicago. This is my type of film. The acting is great and the cast of characters is limited. It only takes place in one location. Maybe three rooms. It’s more like a play, really. I felt like I was in the shop as the story progressed along with all the actors.

I’d like to get into the mechanics of the plot, but I don’t want to be spoiling this one. I will say that it’s a crime drama about mobsters. They use the suit shop as a drop and as a place to talk business once in awhile. Mostly it’s just a guy picking up and dropping off money or messages. The cutter goes along with his work, fastidiously and professionally. He's so meticulous, you feel like he could be great at anything.

Even if you think you’ve got it figured out, it keeps turning. The tension is great. Everybody’s got reasons. Everybody thinks they’re right. And the stakes are life or death.

This is a classic more than meets the eye story. I would genuinely recommend for adults and people that want a movie that isn’t three hours long and doesn’t rely on special effects or a heavy-handed style. It’s just a good story, simple at first but when you start to look harder it’s a lot. Sort of like a classy suit. And I’m pretty sure that’s the point of the whole suit making metaphor. It’s one of those double meaning type deals clever people like to pull.

The Outfit. Put it on. Sorry, couldn’t help myself. Cheers and see you after.
