About Extraction 2: Extract Harder
Post 1372:
Action movies, am I right? All the shooting, punching, kicking, muscles, car chases. It’s so tedious. Then again, why are action movies some of the best films ever made, including fancy dramas and Greek tragedies and whatnot?
I’m not an expert on cinema. I have seen a lot of movies, though. Rotting away, here in my Eastern European jail cell, there’s not a whole lot else to do. I’m about a Chuck Norris marathon later. It’ll be brilliant.
Extraction 2 is a movie where a dead guy comes back to life to do more extracting. He breaks a family out of a Georgian (not America) prison and then has to make sure they stay alive and extracted. He has endless resources and weapons and can’t be killed by gunshots or explosions. He has just about every contingency planned for, except to not let cell phones out and available so people can call the bad guys on speed dial.
The whole thing teeters between ridiculously badass and plain ridiculous. Is it supposed to be gritty and realistic? I felt like I was in a video game. That's not necessarily a bad thing.
There were a few parts I actually cared about. When the little girl gets hurt, I was worried. When the skinny guy sidekick was in peril, I had feelings. When the woman sidekick got shot for the four hundredth time, my insides went askew.
It’s fast paced. Intense. It only gets boring in parts. Chris Hemsballs goes from corpse to Rambo by doing the training montage from Rocky 4. Idris Elba show up to be suave, cheeky British handler man. That should be enough to interest you. Extract yourself from life for a couple hours and watch it. Your brain needs a rest. Cheers and see you after.
