About Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves

About Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves

Post 1407:

Am I supposed to not like Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves? At times I tell myself that, and I’ve heard it’s too cheesy or too this or that. To hell with it. Watched it the other day. Greatness. It’s one of the most quotable movies of all time. Also, Kevin Costner plays an American in Medieval England returning from the Crusades. What’s not to like?

Here’s the thing. Stories are based on scenes that follow up each other. Each one should ultimately go towards the goal of the end. Watch this flick. Where does it fail? I’m never bored. Everything that happens needs to happen. I will start singing Bryan Adams right now if you don’t agree.

We have to talk about Alan Rickman as the Sheriff of Nottingham. One of the greatest bads of all time. He’s having so much fun being evil… it’s just the best. I don’t know if you know this, but he’s going to cut Robin’s heart out with a spoon.

Because it’s dull you twit.

Morgan Freeman is absolutely superb. He adds gravitas. Kevin Costner provides the mostly United States accent. He shoots arrows at things and it works very well.

They’ve tried to do Robin Hood other ways. Maybe they’re more historically accurate. Don’t care. I want Scottish Sean Connery as Richard the Lionheart coming home to Mother England to marry off his American cousin. Who cares. Pretty sure he would’ve been dead. King John? Crickets…………………………

It’s one of the last great adventure movies. It takes itself seriously enough to remember to have fun. That’s something every writer and every person should do. Good Medicine. If you don’t care about any of that, stay for Alan Rickman. He’s just the best. Hard to say if he’s better here or in Die Hard. I’ll say it. Here.

I do it for you. Cheers and see you after.
