About Strange Darling

I don’t write about a ton of newer movies anymore. Strange Darling deserves a few words. More than a few, actually, but I have to be careful. It would be wrong to spoil it.

Feels a bit weird to recommend. There’s some pretty seedy and gross stuff going on. The plot is fundamentally simple but technically complex, and this is what I want to focus a little on. I don’t think it gives away too much to say this is a cat and mouse game. It’s all in the telling though. The little bits of plot and performance keep you fixed. If you’re willing to reserve judgment. I almost bailed on it. Glad I didn’t. The atmosphere and intensity got me in. The cleverness of the script is why I’m commenting on it. A handful of very smart story choices put this up on a higher level.

The movie is showed in chapters, but not in sequence. Again I have to stress, not for kids or even adult humans that aren’t okay with heavy subjects.

I like a movie or book that could be called a lot of things. This is a thriller. A bit horror. Psychological drama. Really weird romance. Social Commentary. Action. Suspense. A bit dark comedy.

For a little movie I barely heard about, it’s pretty dang complex. Small cast. The two leads are fantastic. Crazy good, emphasis on crazy.

It’s pretty challenging, but ultimately entertaining. I don’t know. Maybe I should just watch a rom-com or something.. Something pretty funny that doesn’t make me break out in nervous sweat.

So check it if you’re over 30 and you like movies. If not, nah. It’s one of those. You know what I mean. Back to writing my own stuff that only old weirdos will like. Cheers and see you after.
