About Always Something Worse
Post 1193:
I thought I’d mention the newest season of Peaky Blinders, one of my favorite shows over the last few years. The gangster genre gets stale at times, but Blinders always manages to entertain me.
There’s four reasons why I like it, to make it simple. It’s shot beautifully, dark and slow. The aesthetic is appealing and grimy at the same time. Two, the acting is fantastic. Cillian Murphy is chronically underrated, more than able to carry an entire series.
Three, where a lot of shows seem to pad their length in order to stall for time, Blinders limits the amount of episodes so it doesn’t waste everybody’s time. Streaming shows have to make content and I believe they sometimes want to stretch their stories out beyond what makes sense.
Last, the writer always finds a way to give us someone worse than Tommy, the anti-hero and main character. This is simple and effective. Tommy is a piece of crap human being, selfish and corrupt. But…they always manage to help us identify with him. He’s got enemies that make him look like a decent enough chap. Maybe it’s a cheap way to get us on board. Whatever, it works.
I’m never overly excited for a new season of Peaky Blinders, and I’m always more than satisfied. It’s weird like that. Dark. Not a comedy. If you want something with schemes that’s a tad heavy, give it a go. And the season finales always pay off. Trust me. You could do a lot worse. Cheers and see you after.
