About Arkansas

I didn’t know the movie Arkansas existed until a few days ago when it was recommended to me by some amigos. As soon as it started I was intrigued. It feels very unique, like a stylish dumpster. The two criminal “friends” compliment each other well and it makes for great interactions.
I enjoyed all the characters. Everybody in this movie has their own vibe. I want to say the whole thing was fantastic. Can’t quite do that.
This might be a me thing, but I felt like the plot was a tad thin. Okay, fine, thin plots aren’t necessarily a negative. Only, after that, I got the feeling there was something deeper I was supposed to “get.” It may very well be true. Reading stories and watching stories and reading about reading and writing about writing, a few things can slip by.
It was a funny movie and terribly brutal in its violence. It was fanciful yet gritty. There was a youthful sweetness going on, along with a sort of nihilism. I’d say huge marks for being interesting. If I’m being honest though, I wanted to get more story out of it. No big deal. Lots to applaud. Especially direction, dialogue, and performances.
A good movie with some uneven bits. When something starts with promise I get greedy, though. That’s me being needy, probably. Check it out if you get a chance. As far as crime movies that use the location as the title, this is definitely on that list. Cheers and see you after.
